A cage for superior layer duck farming is the one with a yard and has soil foundation, which is usually called the Rim cage.
Here are the materials and steps needed in constructing a Rim cage:
1 The tools and materials needed are Broti wood, chicken wire netting, board, tarp, nails, hammer, saw and other tools that are normally used for constructing a cage.
2 The cage is supported by poles with the following specifications: 2.5-metre-high in the front area and 2-metre-high in the back area. The width and length of the cage can be adjusted to the population of the ducks. The ideal population is 9-10 ducks/m2.
3 Close the lower part of the cage with 1-metre-high wooden board, and cover the open space in the upper front area with chicken wire netting.
4 Cover the top of the cage with plastic sheeting so it can be opened and closed especially during dry season in order to keep the cage dry and disease-free.
5 Build a pond in the yard with a size depending on the population of the ducks, the ratio is 25 ducks per square metre and the depth is 40 cm. The distance between the cage and the pond should approximately be 4 metres so they are not too close.
