1. Spread 3-cm-thick of cow manure evenly on the bottom of the sheeting.
2. Mix all the materials inside the pond.
3. Pour 2 – 3 cm water on top of the mud mixture.
4. Leave the water in the pond for approximately 10 days.
Producing natural food is done to make the pond filled with planktons as a source of food which will be very much needed by the catfish seeds that we are going to breed.
Here is how to produce natural food in a plastic sheet pond:
Spread 3-cm-thick of cow manure evenly on the bottom of the sheeting.
Spread rice bran evenly on top of the cow manure layer.
Pour water into the pond, then mix all the materials inside the pond.
Pour more water as high as 2 – 3 cm on top of the mud mixture.
Leave the water in the pond for approximately 10 days.
Add more water until it is 30 cm from the bottom of the pond 3 days before spreading catfish seeds.
30 cm is the ideal water level for catfish seeds to swim to the surface for food. If the water level exceeds 30 cm then the catfish seeds will need more energy to swim to the surface of the water and in the end it will hinder the seeds’ growth and development.
