Preparing the land for patchouli cultivation requires the following steps:
a) Clear the land from grass and shrub. Collect the waste from the clearing process in one place but do not burn them.
b) Cut the branches and leaves of tall trees around the area so they do not block the sunlight and the fully-grown patchouli gets enough of it.
c) If the planting area is located in a flat terrain, it is better to make a trench/drainage to avoid stagnant water in the area. For an area located in a sloping land, trench/drainage is not necessary.
